Anacapri

A treasure trove of beauty on the island of Capri

Anacapri is Capri’s second municipality and is known for its warm hospitality and understated elegance, felt throughout the lanes and squares of its historic center. Here, an enchanting atmosphere comes to life, rediscovering a sense of peace and tranquility in every visitor.

Discover the history, culture and traditions of Anacapri: stroll through the historic centre and its characteristic lanes, browse local shops, or explore scenic trails surrounded by nature and opening onto breathtaking views. End the day with a sunset swim in the bay of Punta Carena Lighthouse or in the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Grotto.

Blue Grotto

Anacapri’s Blue Grotto is one of the most famous and fascinating natural wonders on the island of Capri. Opening directly onto the sea, its color changes according to the intensity of the sunlight reflected on the sandy seabed, depending on the time of day and weather conditions. The water glows an intense blue, from which the grotto takes its name. Its history dates back to Roman times, when it was used as a marine nymphaeum. Statues discovered inside the grotto are now preserved at the Casa Rossa Museum in Anacapri.

Villa San Michele and Axel Munthe

Villa San Michele is the realization of Swedish physician and writer Axel Munthe’s dream. During a trip to Capri in 1885, he fell in love with the island, its climate, the wind, the sun and the movement of the sea, and chose to make it his home. The complexity of the architecture, arranged over several levels, has made the Villa an icon of Capri. It is still visited today by travelers from all over the world, also for the breathtaking view over the Gulf of Naples from its belvedere. The Villa also houses archaeological finds, including busts and sarcophagi discovered by Munthe on the island.

Punta Carena Lighthouse

About a 10-minute taxi ride from Hotel Bellavista, Punta Carena Lighthouse stands on the Limmo Peninsula, whose name derives from the Latin word limen, as it marks a “boundary” between the land and the open sea, which stretches uninterrupted as far as Sicily. Built in 1866, the lighthouse is considered one of the most important in Italy, second only to the Lanterna of Genoa. Today, Punta Carena Lighthouse is one of the island’s best-loved attractions, especially for its spectacular sunsets and crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal destination for a day by the sea.
